Frequently asked questions

Is this HealthCare.gov?

No. 1099 Private Health is a DBA of Lyons Life LLC; insurance is offered by Martin Elefant, an independent licensed agent. We help you compare HealthCare.gov plans and private plans; we are not affiliated with any government agency.

What is a private shared-network health plan?

A medically underwritten major-medical plan sold outside the marketplace by a carrier that leases a national PPO network (Cigna, Aetna and PHCS PPO). It's priced on age and health rather than income, enrolls any month, and is month to month.

Who should NOT buy a private plan?

Anyone who qualifies for a HealthCare.gov subsidy, and anyone with a serious pre-existing condition. Private plans can decline or exclude conditions; the marketplace can't. We'll tell you if that's you.

How much do private plans cost?

For a healthy individual, roughly $290–$600 a month depending on age and deductible; families roughly $800–$1,300. See live pricing on our quoting tool.

When can I enroll?

Private plans: any month — apply by the 20th for the 1st. Marketplace: November 1 – January 15, or within 60 days of a qualifying life event.
